Detroit Metal City Special

When I first heard about this show, I was even excited to work on it. When viewing over it together with another metal lover in this group, Raziel666.

We truly saw how great this show is. The band in this show has a true metal image, with lyrics about rape, killing and murder. And they have corpsepaint!

This show most likely took great inspiration from metalbands all over the world. Krauser reminds me a bit of Abbath Doom Occulta from Immortal and looks kind of like Nergal from Behemoth.
Now you probably think is that what this show is all about? Well no, Krauser is just a stage image. In reality Negishi feels very bad about  the stuff he does as Krauser.  His true dream is just to make swedish pop songs.

Enough talking for now go watch this, awesome and orginal anime now!

And also some metal songs to get you in to the mood of this show,
Windir - Fagning

Enslaved - Isa

Behemoth - Demigod

Also a note for DM666, I don’t care if you find this too soft. Paska DM666.

Yucie says: It is not final yet that we will be doing the series. We had the script for the special so we did it since we have nothing else currently :p

The release has 2 issues I think that all mine to blame for as I rushed this one out because I got pissed!

Mnemosyne - 04 DVD

Another however many more years it’s been (in the show). I can only say this with a simple two lines stolen from last episode because I suck at writing release posts:

Moar mnemosyne..
Moar DVD powah

Mnemo 04 DVD Bittorrent Link

/msg INB4RAEP xdcc send #209
/MSG AtsuiAnime XDCC SEND 22

If the following is TL;DR…
It’s technical, don’t worry about it ;)

Well as you all know, we love to bloat file sizes. Mnemosyne comes in at a whopping 700mb. This can be justified though for a few reasons:
a.) it’s a dvd, and I for one want something of high quality
b.) it’s 45minutes long. Your typical 24 min dvd rip can range between 233 and 350mb… which also reinforces 700mb as being valid, 350×2=700mb = no bloating plz
c.) it’s grainy, to shoot for a lower file size would do two things: it would cause quants to rise which would in turn cause details to suffer and a whole bunch of other bad stuff which we don’t want.

Furthermore, grain can pose a problem to certain encoders. Not that I like to retain grain in anime but it because necessary in this cause otherwise details would get raped which is so not what I want, especially in a dvd rip. The old method would be to use deadzones plus a cqm (custom quantizer matrix, or something like that) to help retain the grain. This cqm would probably be presitge. This is now a VERY BAD WAY OF DOING IT. prestige kills fine details and cqm’s are being more obsolete every day with x264.

Which brings us to the current state of x264. psyRDO was created so that what goes into x264 will generally look the same when it comes out, and when what’s going in = what’s going out… good things can happen ;) . So, psyRDO replaces deadzones+cqm’s but that still leaves another problem, trellis. Trellis optimizes for PSNR. psyRDO rapes PSNR and does not optimize for it. And so enters psyTrellis. As the name implies, psyRDO and psyTrellis are now optimizing for the same thing. Which in the end may cause quants to raise, but quality generally gets better.

On a side note, I’d like to say how much the old bframe algorithm failed on this episode (badapt 1) with all the grain and such (DS says so). New one, even with much less consecutive b-frames did a better job. On another side note, psyTrellis was not used in this episode because the encode was made before I could implement it into a build. This will not effect the quality though in any visible amount at the lower quants the episode is at.

Credits to Dark Shikari with some help ;)
Also some of the information above may be entirely incorrect although I’m pretty sure most of it is accurate ;)

Kaiba - Episode 12 (Final)

And here we are with the final episode of Kaiba. Don’t want to say much about the plot as I don’t want to spoil anything. Collectr mentioned “hubris” in his post for the previous episode. What could possibly come after that, in this science fiction tragedy? Someone could assume “catharsis” (the emotional cleansing that was taking part at the end of the ancient Greek tragedies) but in some twisted way.

On a more personal note, in every episode of Kaiba I’ve watched so far, there was a feeling of sadness in the air. Well, this feeling of sadness is more evident on this episode.

Enough talking, the final episode of Kaiba is waiting for you at the usual places.

Batch torrents for Eps 1-12 avaliable as well. If you swing the SD way (sorry to hear it), you should get the SD batch, as we’ve re-encoded eps 1-4 in h264 (original was xvid).

Kaiba - Episode 11

August 7th, 2008 by Collectr
Posted in Kaiba | 25 Comments »

“Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.”

“Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

These quotes (or cliches) are the very essence of our beliefs about “hubris,” the overweening pride that goeth before a fall. Rarely has hubris played out more horrifically than in this episode of Kaiba. At the pinnacle of their achievement, the conflicting ambitions of Popo, Sate, Dada, Warp, and many others collide, with results that more resemble the last act of a Shakespearean tragedy than the climax of an (apparently) cheerful, (deceptively) simple cartoon. And worse, potentially, is yet to come…

We did it!

Amatsuki - Episode 13 (end)

August 5th, 2008 by Collectr
Posted in Amatsuki, News | 30 Comments »

With this episode, Amatsuki comes to an end, if not a conclusion. Indeed, the dénouement is more like a Stephen Sondheim song than a wrap-up to a traditional anime series:

Running away - let’s do it.
Where did you have in mind?
Have to take care:
Unless there’s a “where,”
You’ll only be wandering blind.
Just more questions,
Different kind.

A few threads are wrapped up. Many more are left hanging loose. Let’s hope for a second season.

A friendly chat

P.S from Yucie: Regarding the A-FanRips dvd release, we are totally not happy with what they did so we ask you to not support them and wait for our official dvd releases of this series.

Naisho no Tsubomi - Episode 03

July 31st, 2008 by Collectr
Posted in Naisho no Tsubomi | 9 Comments »

Naisho no Tsubomi comes to a gentle ending, in keeping with the tone of the previous episodes. The baby is born, Tsubomi and Nemoto work through their feelings as best they can, the “mystery” of Saya is cleared up… bringing to an appropriate conclusion Tsubomi’s eventful fifth grade year. If you remember the emotional swings and heart-stopping embarrassment of your first school crush, this episode is for you.

Amatsuki - Episode 12

July 31st, 2008 by Collectr
Posted in Amatsuki, News | 11 Comments »

The tense confrontation among the humans, demons, and Amaza continues, as new revelations unravel the tangled truth about what happened in the past, and what brought this crisis to a head. Then, after twelve episodes, Yakou reappears, to put his enigmatic spin on the whole situation. (In episode 1, we thought Yakou was the generic name of a type of demon. It’s not; it’s the proper name of the character.) And Rikogou, shaken out of his get-along, go-along passivity, takes a momentous decision…

Kaiba - Episode 10

July 31st, 2008 by Collectr
Posted in Kaiba, News | 30 Comments »

This episode supplies the missing back-story for Kaiba and Neiro… the past that both have lost and seek to regain (or perhaps not). It brings the story full circle, back to the mysterious appearance in episode 1 of the amnesiac boy with the hole in his chest. As with so much of Kaiba, the tale lends depth and ambiguity to the actions of all the characters, not just Kaiba and Neiro, but Popo and Dada as well. A peaceful interlude in a story arc of increasing dread… except when the peace is shattered.

Fateful meeting

New Show - Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora

July 24th, 2008 by Blue Mage
Posted in Mahou no Tsukai II, News | 21 Comments »

I’d like to mention now that I’m a horrible person and totally wouldn’t let Lotus write the release post for this show. It’s… cute. And not in a small anime girl sort of way; it’s genuinely wonderful and funny. I could rant for hours about the excess of overly young, cute and totally unrealistic female characters in anime, but I think I’ll let Real Drive and Mahou no Tsukai express my thoughts on the matter.

Sora’s a young girl who’s lived on a farm her entire life, but the time has come for her to go to Tokyo to be trained as a mage. From the first episode alone, the visuals are fantastic, the music is heartwarming, the characters likeable and—hopefully—the writing will be just as good. The first Mahou no Tsukai series was fun and endearing and I have high hopes that this series will be even more so. It’s really nice to get an opportunity to revisit the world of a working-class mage.

Sora

And so, the Blues Brothers of Ureshii (Lotus and Mage) present you with Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora, henceforth known as Mahou no Tsukai II. This project would not have been possible without the support of the wonderful people at Anime-Kraze who decided that the world has enough vampires for everyone and what we all really need more of are cute mages. And I speak from personal experience here.
